Work Schedule:

  • 40 hours per week – based on a 4-1/2 day work week.
    (7:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday – Thursday; 7:30 am – 11:30 pm Friday)

Job Description for Engineer-in-Training

 

Engineer-in-Training, working under the direction of engineers, is responsible for performing complex computations, generating reports and technical specifications, and creating detailed drawings that are utilized in the planning and construction of civil engineering projects including utility (water and wastewater) lines, pump stations, treatment plants, and similar projects.

Engineer-in-Training Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works closely with engineers, surveyors, drafters, and other designers in the execution of engineering projects
  • Perform complex design calculations (hydraulic, storm water, structural, etc.)
  • Hydraulic modeling
  • Support engineering managers in the planning of engineering projects
  • Prepare construction estimates (quantity takeoffs)
  • Preparation and submission of permit applications
  • Preparation of design drawings and project maps
  • Preparation of contract documents and technical specifications
  • Field engineering, including:
    • field data collection and assessment
    • hydraulic flow tests
    • construction observation
    • field surveying, under the supervision of a licensed surveyor
    • attend project meetings

Important Engineering-in-Training Qualifications
The ideal candidate shall possess the following qualifications:

  • Ability to read construction plans
  • Proficient math skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • AutoCAD experience, Civil3D preferred
  • GIS experience preferred

Requirements
All applicants must have a valid SC/NC driver’s license
BS or MS degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution
Proficient in Microsoft Office (word, excel, etc.)
Working Knowledge of AutoCAD
